The Forbidden City is to be opened to the public at night for the first time in 94 years! The lantern festival show will take place on February 19 -20. To enter the Forbidden City to watch the lantern festival is free of charge but visitors must book in advanced online and there are only a limited numbers of bookings allowed. From 2012 to 2018 the open area of the Forbidden City has expanded from 30% to 80%.
